A splendid example of a a 19th Century Grand Hotel – perhaps a little faded and tatty around the edges but great fun to stay in. When you walk into the huge entrance lobby complete with marble statues, you know you’ve really arrived. Breakfast is sumptuous (includes prosecco!) and served in one of two grand dining rooms with chandeliers, mirrors and high celings. Our room was very comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was clean, if a bit dated. The staff were very pleasant and also efficient, and everyone we met spoke good English. The hotel is in a great location – definitely in the better part of Palermo – near the two main theatres, transport hub and the smart shops.
Away from the downstairs public facing spaces, the hotel needs to re- decorate – particularly in the upstairs hallways. Nothing terrible – it’s just a bit tatty. Upstairs too, there’s a lack of signage (to the rooms) – but that’s quite characteristic of Palermo overall. The air conditioning is quite old, noisy and not that effective. It didn’t bother us much because it was late May – in July and August it might be more of an issue.

A wonderfully romantic, old-fashioned grand hotel, charmingly worn but very imposing. Friendly and relaxed service, with genuine Sicilian character. GHdeP is not for those who want a typical globalised, American-style hotel! My room had a delightful balcony with a pretty view over a garden square and a glimpse of the harbour. The room was nicely equipped and comfortable (excellent bed), but my favourite parts of the hotel were the spacious lobby, the cosy bar and elegant breakfast room (the champagne breakfast was particularly good). I will definitely stay there again if I return to Palermo. A memorable experience!

Everything was perfect. Beautifully clean, all the things one needs-even a blowdryer in the room! I have absolutely no complaints and would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone.

Except for its location, not much.
Just about everything. Dirty hallways, not clean room, and very unfriendly staff at the front desk.

Location was central. Room was very big and very comfortable. Breakfast was also very good.
Front desk staff was seriously handicapped due to there inability to communicate in English. I wanted to extend my check-out time to 4 PM but I was given a morning alarm at 4 AM. Complementary Tea-Making Facility could have been provided in the room which had a fancy price.

It was a beautiful old grand hotel, breakfast and room staff were excellent, the reception staff not overly friendly or helpful, but got a bit better as the week went on. Over all a very nice hotel and good value for money, great location.
Reception staff. Showers leaked all over the bathroom.

I liked the atmosphere there – a hint of Belle Epoque before wwi.

This is an older hotel, formerly grand luxe (it seems) but slipping down the scale. Rooms have been refurbished and are actually very comfortable, bathroom likewise, consistent with standing. Breakfast excellent, varied. The reduced rates on were competitive although higher than what we had been paying elsewhere in Sicily and Palermo. Location is excellent (near Politeama and airport bus). Staff generally pleasant and helpful.
I guess we are not that into faded grandeur — drinks in the minibar were 6 euros and up, internet access was 10 euros per hour (you got that right) and also 3.50 euros for 10 minutes on the hotel machines. The first room we were assigned was tremendously hot (a/c off for the season), they changed our room without quibble and the second one was better. Lengthy walk through faded corridors to elevators. Depending on your priorities and budget, this may be a good choice but it did not fit our criteria as well as others.

Comfortable, conveniently located and good value for money
Room too hot in the evening. Air coditioning didn’t work and the roof equipment is very noisy.

Great design and atmosphere. Rooms beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The location is perfect, right at the city centre.
The only thing we were disappointed about was the Internet fees, as we expected free Wi-Fi.
